Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
EcolocityDC is a community-based initiative to influence public policy and public awareness of the effects of peak oil and global warming on the lives of citizens of the District. Because modern life is based on the availability of cheap oil, challenges will arise as supplies dwindle.

We will prepare for a transition to a post-carbon reality in two ways. We will create a broad-based coalition of government, civic, professional and environmental groups at one level to address policy, implementation and public education. Together we will prepare an Energy Descent Action Plan for the District.

At the grass-roots, we seek to establish an ecovillage with an intentional community that demonstrates best practices of sustainability that will include permaculture, organic farming, recycling, salvaging, energy generation from renewable resources, water management and the restoration and greening of public spaces.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
We are actively doing outreach to communities in the Greater Washington area, seeding initiatives in Bethesda, Frederick, Greenbelt, Takoma Park and Baltimore.
