I have just finished reading "The End of Money and the Future Of Civilization", and want to applaud Thomas Greco for writing such a comprehensive book, which I believe sets a new baseline for understanding the development of alternative currencies. From its comprehensive coverage of the history of money, to its deep analysis of the flaws in our current system, and its breakdown of the different purposes of money it is extremely well grounded. The book then goes much further to a discussion of the many approaches to alternative currencies. What has been tried, what worked, what failed and what are the key characteristics for success.
I can also recommend his web site http://www.reinventingmoney.com/, which has several slide shows covering some of these issues, all of which are very accessible. Thank you Thomas Greco for making this so much easier for all of us who want to follow on this path!!!
Has anyone else read this book or have other great sources?
Sounds intriguing. I've ordered a copy of the book and will have it available tf ranyone in the group who
s interested in reading it (After I've read it!)-Shirley
Chris and Shirley, in my never-ending attempt to keep things organized . . . I have created two other discussions . .
a) links to websites and articles online
b) books
If either of you have other articles or books you think people should know about, please let me know. I think only I can update my own files. Thanks!

Subject: Richard C. Cook's review ofThe End of Money and the Future of Civilization,
Dear friends,
I try to keep my mailings to a minimum but this is important.
Richard C. Cook’s review of my book, The End of Money and the Future of Civilization, combines some of my main points with his own insightful observations, and has stirred up a lot of interest. Besides appearing on his own website, the review has been picked up by a number of others, including The Market Oracle, Dandelion Salad, After Downing Street, and Dissident Voice.
Solving the "money problem" is a necessary step in solving the rest of our problems. I'm sure that many of you have still not finished reading my book, so, if you do nothing else, please read Richard's review and have a look at his website.
Cook’s own work is worth following closely. He a former federal government analyst who writes on public policy issues. His website iswww.richardccook.com. His latest book is We Hold These Truths: The Hope of Monetary Reform (Tendril Press, 2009). His career included service with the U.S. Civil Service Commission, the Food and Drug Administration, the Carter White House, NASA, and the U.S. Treasury Department. He also taught history at the Field School in Washington, D.C., and owned and operated an organic farm for 10 years while commuting to work from rural Virginia.
My latest book, The End of Money and the Future of Civilization, is now available. You can order it from ChelseaGreen.com, Amazon.com, or your local bookstore.
